(Հայոց) 653 (1204) թվին, ես՝ Տեր Հովհաննեսս, շինեցի եկեղեցիս և ժողովեցի խաչ և գիրք, որ այստեղ էին և հիմնեցի Ջոթանց այգին և Մատաղիսը բազում աշխատությամբ (դժվարությամբ) և իմ ավագ եղբոր՝ Հասանի և իր որդիների՝ Հաթերքի տերերի միջնորդությամբ տվեցի վանքիս իրենց բոլոր սահմաններով: Ով խափանի, (թող) Աստծու (կողմից) խափանվի (զրկվի) կյանքից:
In the Armenian year 653 (1204), I, Ter Hovhannes, built this church and gathered the crosses and books that were here. I established the garden of Jotants and Mataghis with great difficulty and through the intercession of my elder brother Hasan and his sons, the lords of Haterk, I granted them to my monastery with all their boundaries. Whoever violates this, may he be deprived of life by God.
Սալանման բարակ քարը՝ բեկորված վեց անհավասար մասերի, ընկած է եղել եկեղեցու արևելյան պատի տակ, որտեղ էլ այն 1960-ական թթ. տեսել է վիմագրագետ Սեդրակ Բարխուդարյանը և տեղափոխել է Երևանի Մեսրոպ Մաշտոցի անվան Մատենադարան:
The thin, slab-like stone—broken into six unequal fragments—was lying at the base of the church's eastern wall. It was there that the epigraphist Sedrak Barkhudaryan documented it in the 1960s before transferring it to the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran) in Yerevan.
