In the Armenian year 706 (=1257), I, Sargis, son of Khotsadegh, erected this cross in memory of my brother … and for (intercession) before God. Remember me in your prayers to the Christ.
Խաչքարը նախկինում ագուցված է եղել գավթի արևմտյան պատի հյուսիսային մասում, որպիսին և 1960-ական թթ. հայ-ադրբեջանական վիմագրագիտական գիտարշավի ժամանակ այն տեսել և նկարագրել է վիմագրագետ Սեդրակ Բարխուդարյանը: Եթե խաչքարն իր ժամանակի դասական օրինակներից է, ապա արձանագրությունն աչքի չի ընկնում վայելչագրությամբ. անհամաչափ են տողերն ու տառերը և տպավորություն է, որ փորագրիչը բնագիրն այդ հատվածում ամփոփելու խնդիր է ունեցել: Խաչասալը խոնավությունից տեղ-տեղ մամռապատ և աղակալած է:
The khachkar was formerly embedded in the northern section of the gavit's (narthex) western wall, where it was documented and described by epigraphist Sedrak Barkhudaryan during the Armenian–Azerbaijani epigraphic expedition of the 1960s. While the khachkar itself is a classic example of its period, the inscription lacks calligraphic elegance; the lines and characters are disproportionate, suggesting the engraver struggled to constrain the text within the allotted space. Due to moisture, the cross-slab is partially covered with moss and salt efflorescence.
