By the grace and mercy of Almighty God, this wondrous holy temple—the Holy Savior (Ghazanchetsots) Church of the city of Shushi—was built through the contributions and donations of its devout congregation. Its construction commenced in 1866, during the reign of the God-protected, autocratic Emperor Alexander II of All Russia and the patriarchate of Catholicos Gevorg IV, and was completed in 1887, during the reign of his son, the blessed Emperor Alexander III, and the catholicosate of Macarius I. On 20 September 1888.

The surface of the inscribed slab has suffered extensive damage, apparently from repeated stone impacts that have left numerous pits, rendering parts of the inscription illegible or difficult to decipher. The lettering is a small-form erkat‘agir–bolorgir script, typical of the epigraphic tradition of the period.
