Commentary
This monument is a unique masterpiece of medieval Armenian khachkar art and epigraphy, distinguished by its exquisite sculpture and elegant calligraphy. It is a bipartite structure with a separately carved cornice, at the center of which is a depiction of Christ Enthroned (Christ in Majesty). The upper section of the stele’s left border is damaged, and the surface exhibits various pits and traces of soot. It is nearly contemporaneous with the 1283 AD khachkar bearing the name of Vardapet Athanas and is evidently the work of the same master. Previous editors, with the exception of Mesrop Magistros Ter-Movsisyan, read the name of Ter Athanas’s mentor (guardian) simply as Grigor.
Հայ միջնադարյան խաչքարագործության և վիմագրության եզակի ստեղծագործություններից է, որն աչքի է ընկնում նրբագեղ քանդակագործությամբ և վայելչագիր արձանագրությամբ: Երկմաս է, քիվն առանձին է կերտվել, որի կենտրոնում պատկերված է Գահակալ Քրիստոս: Կոթողի ձախ եզրագոտու վերնամասը վնասված է, մակերեսին առկա են զանազան փոսեր, մրի հետքեր: Ժամանակամերձ է Աթանաս վարդապետի անվանակիր 1283 թ. խաչքարին և ակնհայտորեն միևնույն վարպետի ձեռակերտն է: Նախորդ հրատարակիչները, բացառությամբ Մեսրոպ Մագիստրոս Տեր-Մովսիսյանի, Տեր Աթանասի սնուցողի՝ խնամակալի անունը պարզապես Գրիգոր են կարդացել:
